I think this is the reticle I will actually use...

And here's a target we can both agree on...

Cellophane would be a great idea, especially if I could backlight it inside the scope. For now, I have just printed it on regular paper and laminated with packing tape.

Time for a little paint. Here she is all stripped down to a basic sterling and painted...

Still a few more details to add, but here she is with a few E-11 goodies added...

Scope has been painted and reticle insert added. Still working on the rail. Still to do...

How did you add the checkering?

I used fiberglass window screen. Place on top of flat part of grip, get angle right. Brush on glue (I used wood glue)/water mixture, allow to dry. Use razor blade to trim to shape. Paint.

Very interesting.. I did a test with epoxy putty and the window screening..

Cover the grip with a thin layer of putty, let it set for a little while, then lightly press the screen into it to get the pattern.

I may just try the glue on screen method instead.

I am very pleased with the result. Be sure to water down the glue enough (about 60% glue/40% water)so that it doesn't fill the screen and lose the texture. Use a small brush to push the mixture down into all the holes. The bubbles should disappear as the water evaporates. It will seem like it is not going to stick until the glue begins to cure and starts to get tacky. The top coat of paint will also act as an adhesive/sealant for the screen.

The texture is a little more coarse than an actual Sterling grip, but it is reasonably close and feels better in your hand than the smooth grip.

Scope and rail added to painted blaster. I had originally made a 3/4" x 1/8" rail. After looking at many pictures, I remade the rail with 3/4" x 1/16" material. I really like the 1/8" material better because it doesn't flex, but the 1/16" seems more screen accurate. Any thoughts?

Bonus picture... Has nothing to do with blaster building, but here is another project I have started.

I added an interior barrel between the muzzle and chamber section of the main tube. It's a little hard to see without taking everything apart again. I'll see if I can get any kind of picture for that later. Now, I have to work on the bolt and main spring. I'm still deciding whether to make the bolt/charging handle functional and how to do that while maintaining a scale appearance.

No blaster progress pics, but here's another helmet progress pic for your entertainment in the meantime.

If this helmet doesn't kill me first! LOL! A friend found a cheap armor kit on e-bay, and we're doing a fiberglass reinforced paper mache recast. A just-for-fun project. I know such a thing would never be 501st approvable, but it will have to do until I can buy my own kit.
