OK, I have already posted some of this in another thread, but it's time I gave it a thread of its own. I have already made a couple of E-11 blasters and a paper mache stormtrooper helmet. Now, I'm getting down to the nitty gritty with some serious vacuum formed armor and other handmade accessories. Here's what I have so far...

E-11 Blaster (scratch built)

I made this holster for my E-11 blaster over the weekend...

Neck Seal (scratch built)

I ordered these boots this weekend...
http://www.shoebuy.com/giorgio-brutini-66059/376517/802555

Vacuum Formed Armor Parts

I have also made white silicone rubber hand guards (will post a picture later) and have some gloves. I still lack a vacuum formed helmet, knee bandolier, belt, thermal detonator, and a few accessories. I have already purchased brow trim (US52) and neck trim (SWR149) from Seals Direct. I also have a dark green visor material for the lenses.

I strapped the chest and back together with elastic at the shoulders and added the formed shoulder straps to the chest piece. I am now working on trimming out and fitting all of the armor pieces I now have. I have more ABS plastic on the way to finish the parts I need. Stay tuned...

Nice! What are the details on those boots?

Gonna hit them with Acetone and then do a white shoe polish covering?

(I use the Fieblings white leather dye on my British kit and it covers nicely by brushing, but I still do a final airbrushing to give it a smooth finish.)

I purchased the boots from shoebuy.com
http://www.shoebuy.com/giorgio-brutini-66059/376517/802555
When I ordered them, they were 20% off and free shipping, so about $48 delivered. I think they are 15% off and free shipping now.

Except for the one additional seam, they appear screen accurate. Yeah, I'll have to strip that glossy coating and make them white somehow. I was just starting to research how to get that done. I will check into the leather dye you mentioned. Thanks for the tip.

Got a little bit more done this weekend. Worked on the helmet molds, faceplate mold is coming along nicely. Belt and right knee ammo pack molds reworked. Made thermal detonator molds. All the pieces are now in place. To quote the Emperor, "Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen."

Time to start turning black to white... Here are the chest and back plates.

For the boots, I had trouble locally sourcing any kind of leather dye, so I opted to try this product. So far, the results have been promising.

First, I stripped the boots with acetone. Turns out the boot uppers were a mixture of real leather and synthetic. The acetone quickly removed the shiny coating from the leather, but I had to be careful not to let a heavy coating get on the synthetic leather. A light coating that evaporated and was wiped away quickly removed the gloss without eating it. Here are the boots with two coats of the above paint (the soles are still taped off here).

As you can see, it may take a couple of more coats, and I will have to find a fabric paint to cover the black elastic. After fully curing, the boots can be flexed without cracking or wrinkling. Adhesion seems to be good at this point.

Looking good so far.

How large is the elastic area on the boot?

I was thinking of getting some wide white elastic and sewing it onto the black to cover it.

I'm sure fabric paint will work too.

Can't wait to see the full suit assembled!

The elastic measures about 2-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" high.

Here are the boots after a couple more coats and application of fabric paint to the elastic. I also used fabric paint to cover the seams. The tape is still on the soles.

Here, on the vac table, are some of the other molds we made: Belt, right knee ammo pack, thermal detonator, ab buttons. I now have all my vacuum formed barts but the helmet.

That's some serious orange peel on the ABS. Is it just optical?

Not that I don't want one, just wondering how much filling will be needed.
